Eating 6 Meals A Day to Lose Weight

Date December 22, 2007

So I was listening to Dr. Drew on the radio this past week and one of his guests was a guy from the new American Gladiators. He was talking about how he helps folks get in shape and lose weight by increasing their metabolism. He claimed that as we get older, our bodies metabolism decreases and we need to get our metabolism back up and running in order to lose weight. He said that I could eat more food and lose weight.

I was intrigued by this idea.

Is it true? How will eating more food allow me to lose weight? As I listened closely to his story and some testimonials from folks who did the diet with him I was even more curious.

So how do I increase my metabolism? The answer, I found, is eating more frequently. Eating six to eight meals a day can actually jump start your metabolism and get you back on track to losing weight and burning off the weight. Society has trained us to eat just three meals a day. Long breaks between meals gets us hungry by the time the next meal comes around we are usually quite starved. When we get hungry or feel like we are starving, our bodies go into preservation mode and starts storing food as fat. This is how we pack on the pounds.

The idea of eating 6 to 8 meals a day is relatively new to me, but it makes sense. Eat smaller meals constantly and your body will be forced to digest food constantly, bringing back it’s ability to metabolize the food into what it needs. By constantly eating, our bodies don’t go into starvation mode and therfore won’t store fat.

I plan to test out this theory and see if it really works.
